Flying

We recently had to fly to Ohio unexpectedly. There was a death in Matt's family, so we found out late on Wednesday night that we would be flying out on Thursday afternoon. So we had to cancel our weekend plans, pack, talk to our bosses, and find a place for Buster to stay in a very short time. We got it all done though, and despite the sad reason for going up there, we had a wonderful time with family. I am so thankful that my in-laws got to see Tyler at this precious age. Tyler did really well on the plane. He slept during most of the flights, but there was a little crying involved. Our last flight on the way home, there was a problem with one of the instruments so we were forced to sit on the plane for over two hours until they had us deboard, and then board another flight.





A few nights before leaving for Ohio, Tyler started rolling over a lot. This was the first time I had actually seen him rolling from his back to his belly, so I was very excited. The first time I saw him roll, he was actually trying to reach Buster:


The next morning after he woke up and ate, I left him on a blanket in his room for about two minutes while I got some coffee. When I returned, he was on the opposite side of the room! I couldn't believe how far he had rolled. Now, a week or so later, I'm completely used to it. I took a picture to capture the distance:


A few days after we got home from Ohio, I had to pack up again to drive with Tyler down to Bradenton so I could be a bridesmaid in my friend Lindsey's wedding.


She is one of my best friends, and I had so much fun being in the wedding. The ceremony was outside at a Bed and Breakfast on the water, and the reception was at a beautiful waterfront restaurant. Thankfully, Matt was able to stay in Tallahassee and work because my mom drove over to take care of Tyler during the wedding events. He got to go swimming for the first time. He seemed okay with it, but not too thrilled.

Cereal

Today, Tyler had his first taste of rice cereal. He didn't seem to enjoy it very much, but I know it may take some time for him to get used to it. I documented the sequence of events:

He also recently rolled over! Unfortunately, I missed it. Tyler was on the floor playing while I was on the computer, and when I looked up from what I was doing, he was lying flat on his face! He has been able to roll from his tummy to his back for a long time now, but this was the first time rolling from his back to his tummy. He hasn't done it since then, but he's gotten pretty close a few times.

Tyler has a doorway jumper and the box says that it's for babies over 4 months old. I got it out of the box the other day and set it up so Ty could try it out. I obviously didn't adjust it correctly because Tyler was hanging about 3 feet above the ground. It was really funny:



Once the jumper was adjusted correctly, Tyler just played with one of the attached toys and was just slumped over. He's still a little too small for it, so I'll try again in a few weeks.

Tyler still smiles a lot, "talks" a lot, and has recently been paying a lot of attention to his toes (even grabbing them sometimes):

The other day, Tyler fell asleep in his crib while playing with his toy. Matt got a picture of it (so sweet):

Tyler also really enjoys watching Buster. When I'm done feeding Ty in the morning and Buster comes into the room, Tyler gets a huge smile on his face and he reaches out for him if he comes close enough. He also smiles a lot when Buster it whining (usually trying to get us to play with him). He stays entertained for quite a while watching Buster walk around the room, play, bark, etc. I can't believe Tyler will be 5 months old in a week! Here are some additional pictures:

I'm chubby!

Tyler is finally gaining some weight now that he's eating formula exclusively. At his 4 month check-up, he weighed 13 lb. 12 oz., he was 24 inches long and the size of his head is still up the 70th percentile! He had to get some shots at the doctor's office...It was so sad because he was just looking up at the nurse with a huge smile on his face, having no idea that pain was on it's way. Needless to say, the smile did not last for very long.

Tyler and I traveled AGAIN recently. A few weeks ago, we made our way up to Charleston, SC to throw a bridal shower for my sister, Joy. My cousin, Lauren, drove with us so I had some help and company. We got to Joy's house on a Thursday night, and on Friday we walked around downtown Charleston, went shopping, and had lunch with Joy, Lauren, my Mom and Aunt Linda. The shower was on Saturday, March 27th, and turned out great. Thank goodness for my Mom and Aunt Linda! They brought their dishes, linens and recipes and helped me make everything nice for Joy.








We had Joy's bachelorette party following the shower. We went downtown and ate dinner at an Italian restaurant called Bocci's, and then went out for drinks. Here are some of the girls toasting to Joy and Chris!

The day before Easter, we drove down to Eastpoint for the day. He had a great day with his grandparents and great-grandma. I was able to take some pictures of Tyler with his first Easter basket full of gifts from both sets of his grandparents and his aunt.


Also new: Tyler went to the church nursery for the first time and he did great! He is still inconsistent with his sleeping patterns at night, but we have had a few really great nights, including one night where he slept 11.5 hours straight! Last night he slept for 10 hours. I have eliminated his late-night feeding and I've started giving him a bottle right before bed (usually around 7 or 8). Tyler is very playful and vocal, and today he actually laughed out loud for the first time! He has definitely come very close many times before, but hearing him laugh made me so happy.
